How we write guides
Where the facts in our guides, how-to pages and tools come from, how we check them, and what the date on a guide means.
Official sources
- Guides, how-to pages and tools are based on official sources: Spanish law in the BOE, ministries, the Agencia Tributaria, the Seguridad Social, regional and city governments, EU bodies, and the official bodies that run a service.
- Each guide that shows a "Last reviewed" date ends with a Sources section that links the official pages it used.
- On a how-to page, each document, step and common mistake links the official page it comes from.
- Our calculators link the official sources they are based on.
Checked against the source text
- Amounts, deadlines and rules in a guide are checked against the official page they come from.
- Every step on a how-to page is backed by a short quote copied exactly from its official page. A script fetches each of those pages and fails if a quote is not on it, so a how-to cannot claim a form, fee or option that its source does not show.
What "Last reviewed" means
The date at the top of a guide is the day its facts were last checked against the sources. We change it when we check the content, not when we change how the page looks.
How drafts are written
Drafts are written with AI help. Every fact is checked against its official source before it is published, and the page shows the date that check was last done.
What we do not do
- Guides are general information, not legal, tax or medical advice. Rules change and depend on your circumstances, so check anything that matters with a qualified professional.
- No business pays to appear in a guide. A guide links to categories in the directory, not to individual listings.
- How-to pages and paperwork checklists can show Professional members, who pay for a listing plan. They sit in their own section below the official steps, marked with their plan, and are not part of the steps.
Found a mistake?
If something in a guide, a how-to page or a tool is wrong or out of date, tell us which page and what has changed.
