Apply for the digital nomad residence from Spain
File the initial teleworker residence application online with UGE, the Ministry of Inclusion unit that handles it, while you are already in Spain.
For: A non-EU remote worker who is already in Spain legally, or who holds a teleworker visa, and wants the residence authorisation.
Last checked
- Cost
- The fee is EUR 73.26 for an initial application, for the holder and for each family member. This is the amount UGE lists as of the review date. UGE teleworker FAQ
- Time
- The law gives UGE 20 days from electronic filing. If there is no decision in that time, the authorisation is treated as granted by silence. Ley 14/2013, art. 76
What you need
Steps
Gather the documents on the UGE list, with sworn translations and apostilles where a foreign document is not in Spanish.
Public documents from abroad must be apostilled or legalised.
Download the MI-T form from the electronic office procedure page, fill it in and sign it.
Pay the fee online with modelo 790 código 038, point 7, and keep the NRC payment reference.
You can pay by card, direct debit or Bizum, or print the form and pay at a bank.
Open the Ministry of Inclusion electronic office and choose the procedure for international mobility residence authorisations.
Sign in with your electronic certificate, or have an authorised representative file for you.
A representative needs a power registered through the Apodera electronic register.
Attach the signed form, the payment proof with the NRC and all supporting documents, then submit the application.
Applications and later documents must all go through the electronic office.
Watch the electronic office for requests to fix the file and answer within 10 days.
If you do not answer in time, the application is treated as withdrawn.
If 20 days pass with no decision, ask for the resolution by silence in the electronic office under Subsanación.
Use Alta de Solicitud, identify yourself with your certificate, then Subsanación.
Done when: You have a granted resolution (or the silence resolution) from UGE for your teleworker residence authorisation.
Common mistakes
- Applying from your home country. That route is the consulate visa, not this residence application. UGE teleworker FAQ
- Applying while holding a non-lucrative residence. UGE says it does not allow work, so it cannot back a teleworker application. UGE teleworker FAQ
What varies
The electronic office is the only filing route for these applications, so there is no office or province to choose. The exact screen labels in the sede can change.
