What you need
Steps
Check that you must register: a regular activity on your own account means you must, whatever the income.
Open "Alta en trabajo autónomo" in Import@ss (portal.seg-social.gob.es) and press "Solicitar alta".
The sign-in options on the screen vary; use the one the portal offers you.
Enter your start date and activity address. File before you start, and no more than 60 days before.
Enter your IAE code and CNAE code, and say if you run more than one activity.
If you run several activities you register only once.
Enter your expected net income. The portal turns the monthly average into your contribution base.
Use the luid.es contribution calculator to see the fee for each bracket first. You can change the base later in Base de cotización y rendimientos.
Pick your contribution base and tick the benefits that apply to you, such as the tarifa plana if it is your first alta.
As the Social Security guide stands at the review date, the tarifa plana is 80 euros a month for the first 12 months if you were not in the regime in the previous 2 years. Check the amount on the screen before you confirm.

Common mistakes
- Filing after you have started working. The alta is treated as late for all purposes. Seguridad Social (Import@ss): Alta en trabajo autonomo
- Registering with Hacienda after the start date. You lose the right to fee benefits and may get a surcharge. Seguridad Social (Import@ss): Guia practica de trabajo autonomo
